Mary Catherine Jolin Obituary

Mary Catherine Jolin was born on October 23, 1937, in Dallas, Texas. She lived to see her 85th birthday and her beloved Astros win the World Series. She died on November 23, 2022, in Dallas with her family surrounding her. She was a resident of Florence, Texas for over 30 years, and lived in many places before that as an Army wife, embracing each new duty station and making a home for her family. Ever a devoted wife and mother, she put family first. She and her husband, Chaplain (LTC) Ernest William Jolin, Jr., celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary this past June. She was looking forward to living in Lufkin with her husband, daughter Guiia, and son-in-law Tony.

Cathy was a patient, kind, contented, determined, sweet, and loving Christian woman. She was actively involved in each church she attended. She graduated from high school in Irving, worked as a beautician in her youth, and then in her 40s, she went back to school and earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin. She later had a career with the IRS as a Tax Examiner.

She is preceded in death by her mother Mary Evelyn Jannasch, her fathers Harry Jannasch and Donald Robertson, and grandson Chaztin. She is survived by her husband Ernest (Guy) Jolin, brother Larry Jannasch, sister Barbara Moss, daughters Guiia Brooks and Melissa Hauffe, sons-in-law Tony Brooks and Chris Hauffe, and her grandchildren: Jeromy and Cristal, Zackary, Jadeon, Ethan, Mia, and Louis, and two great-granddaughters Vylana and Elora, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In her final years, her greatest wish was to walk again. And while COVID-19 postponed her surgery twice, in May 2022 she had a successful hip replacement. However, even with the help of many dedicated medical professionals and interventions, her body could not stay well. Her mind was still sharp and she was exceedingly brave as she continued to fight to get better for seven months. She was a Type 1 Diabetic for almost 50 years and this underlying condition took its toll. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. God rest her soul.
