Funeral services for Mary Jean (Sawyer) Nettles, 83, of Diboll, will be held Sunday, September 8, 2024, at 2:30 p.m. at Campground Cemetery in Woodville, Texas with Bro. Buster Grigg officiating.
Mary Jean (Sawyer) Nettles was born on April 27, 1941, in Silsbee, Texas, to the late John Wayne Sawyer and Mae Elizabeth (Hensarling) Sawyer, and died Thursday, September 5, 2024, in Lufkin.
Mrs. Nettles was a member of First Baptist Church in Diboll and served as the secretary there for over 25 years. She loved flowers and was an avid reader. Mrs. Nettles especially enjoyed reading her Bible. She was a great sister and a loving mother and nana.
Mrs. Nettles is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ladonna Michelle and David Garza of Diboll, TX; granddaughter, Arianna Boutin and husband Collin of League City, TX; granddaughter, Alyssa Garza and Weston of Diboll, TX; sister, Peggy S. Terry and husband Billy of Bryan, TX; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joe Curtis Nettles; son, Gregory Curtis Nettles; and brother, Robert Wayne Sawyer.
In lieu of flowers, special memorials may be made to T.L.L. Temple Memorial Library, 300 Park, Diboll, Texas 75941 or to Diboll FFA Floral Design Program, Diboll High School, 1000 Lumberjack Dr., Diboll, Texas 75941.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Saturday, September 7, 2024, at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin.
