Marybeth Powell Obituary

          Memorial services for Marybeth Powell, 65, of Lufkin, will be held Saturday, March 7, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at The Salvation Army, Lufkin, Texas.


          Ms. Powell was born on September 4, 1960, in Annapolis, Maryland, to the late Harry E. Powell and Virginia Lee (Alexander) Powell, and died Friday, February 20, 2026, in Houston, Texas.


          Ms. Powell was a member of The Salvation Army, where she played piano and taught Sun Beam, Girl Guard, and Sunday School Classes.  She loved to tell people about God. Ms. Powell taught first grade for 35 years, with the last school being Dunbar. After she retired, she volunteered at the Kurth Memorial Library and was part of the “Friends of the Library”. Ms. Powell loved to paint and read. She also was a talented Alto and French Horn player, during her school days.


          She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Kathy and Jim Stoner of Conroe, TX; brother, Steven Powell of Lufkin; niece, Haley Stoner of Conroe, TX; nephew, Bryan Stoner and wife Ruth of Conroe, TX; cousin, Eunice Harwell and husband Hank of Rome, GA; along with numerous aunts.


          Ms. Powell was preceded in death by her parents; aunt and uncle, Jacki and Gordon Swyers; and uncles, Ronnie Swyers and Bob Conway.
