Funeral services for Megan Scogin-Causey, 29, of Nacogdoches, will be held Thursday, December 4, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin with Pastor Mark Wilke officiating. Interment will follow at Cochran Cemetery.
Megan was born on March 7, 1996, in Lufkin, Texas, to Mike Scogin and the late Dede (Cochran) Scogin, and died Wednesday, November 26, 2025, in Nacogdoches.
Megan was an aspiring artist and photographer. She started her higher education from Angelina College to Rocky Mountain College of Art in Denver Colorado then to Stephen F. Austin where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a bachelor’s in fine arts with highest honors. Megan was currently attending SFA for her master’s in Environmental Education and Interpretation. She loved her daughters more than anything and they were her entire world. Megan was very artistic. She enjoyed photography, doing crafts with her kids, and knitting and crocheting gifts for people. Megan had a green thumb and loved plants. She enjoyed listening to soulful, quirky music. Megan also loved animals, traveling, and she never met a stranger. She would give the shirt off her back for the people she loved. The brightest crayon in the box!
She is survived by her husband, Cody Causey of Nacogdoches; daughters, Charlie Ruth Causey and Camilla Causey, both of Nacogdoches; father and fiancé, Mike Scogin and Mary Morales of Huntington; sister and wife, Shelby and Krysti Scogin of Huntington; nephews, Jakob Kasper and Kyle Kasper, both of Huntington; grandparents, George and Pat Scogin of Lufkin; grandfather, Jerry Phillips of Huntington; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Sabrina and Cliff Causey of Huxley, TX; grandmother, Lois Cochran of Cleburne, TX; aunt and uncle, Lashell and Jeff Carrick of Washougal, WA; cousins, Delaney Carrick and Brady Carrick, both of Washougal, WA; along with numerous cousins.
Megan was preceded in death by her mother, Dede Scogin; grandmother, Jackie Cochran; grandfather, Burt Cochran; and aunt, Rhonda Weisinger.
Pallbearers will be Cody Causey, Zillah Rogers, Brian Stokes, Zailyn Baptist, Jerry Phillips, and Michael Taylor.
Honorary pallbearers will be Don Austin.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at Shafer Funeral Home.
