Melba Joy Lundstedt Obituary

Memorial services for Melba Joy Lundstedt, 81, of Huntington, will be held Thursday, November 20, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin with Pastor Mark Wilke officiating.

Mrs. Lundstedt was born on April 28, 1944, in Apple Springs, Texas, to the late Virgil T. Madden and Mary Christine (Truss) Madden, and died Friday, November 14, 2025, in Huntington.

Mrs. Lundstedt was a member of Carpenter’s Way Baptist Church in Lufkin, Texas. Melba was one of the oldest of 11 children and enjoyed caring for and helping her siblings. She continued this theme throughout her life, using the things she excelled in, such as filing taxes, studying retirement plans, and researching insurance choices to help others. Helping others to make informed choices made her happy.

Spending time with family was always important to Mrs. Lundstedt. Family gatherings were a mainstay, and she didn’t mind traveling to visit with family members who did not live close by. She was a co-owner of Garner & Lundstedt, a successful small business that offered tax and accounting services. She worked alongside Carlyn Garner for many years until their mutual retirement. During that time, she and Carlyn became lifelong friends.

Melba raised her daughters with love and respect, instilling a strong work ethic and a serious love for Jesus. She believed in hard work, doing what is right, and trusting God in all things. She was a strong influence on her grandchildren as well, and she instilled the same values in them. She never hesitated to ask Chuck to drop off lunch or forgotten homework when they called her in need.

Melba and Chuck had a happy life together and were an example of what a marriage should resemble. The same themes she taught her children were present every day in their marriage. Their life together stood as a testament to what true love should be.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Chuck Lundstedt of Huntington; daughter, Robyn Herring of Huntington; daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Brian Davis of Huntington; granddaughter, Megan Latham of Bullard; grandson, Jace Weeks of Huntington; great-granddaughter, Wyatt Lynn Latham of Bullard; sisters, Mary Pierce, Dianne Roberts, and Linda Sue Leer; brother and sister-in-law, Roy Lynn and Linda Madden; brother, Leon Madden; sister-in-law, Helen Smith; beloved friend and business partner, Carolyn Garner; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Lundstedt was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, V.T. Madden, Jr., Maurice Truss, James Thomas Madden, and Sammy Madden; sister, Betty Sullivan; brother-in-law, Dean Lundstedt; and grandson, Josh Tyler Weeks.

In lieu of flowers, special memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011 or to Carpenter’s Way Baptist Church, 400 N John Redditt Dr, Lufkin, TX 75904.
