Funeral services for Melvin “Mel” E. Hall, 89, of Lufkin, will be held Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin with Dr. John Greene officiating. Graveside services will be held on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at White Cemetery in Longview, Texas.
Mr. Hall was born on July 14, 1936, in Poynette, Wisconsin, to the late Gordon Elmer Hall and Flossie Mae (Newman) Hall, and died Monday, November 17, 2025, in Lufkin.
Mr. Hall aka “Foo” served in the United States Navy. He was a member of The American Legion and the USS Warrington DD 843 Alumni Organization. Mr. Hall loved to play poker, shoot pool, and play bingo and organized all of those activities for his neighborhood. Mr. Hall enjoyed rebuilding cars. His pride and joy was the 1926 Model T he built from the ground up.
Mr. Hall is survived by his wife, Jo Hall of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Walter Miller of Lufkin; daughter, Darlene Weedon of Longview, TX; daughter, Debra Hall of Longview, TX; daughter, Denise Van Fossen of Longview, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Sonny Colclasure of Winona, TX; son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Cindy Hall of Willis, TX; stepsons, Billy Work and family, Joe Work and family, Phillip Work and family and brother, David Hall of Montello, WI; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Eldon Hall and Harold Hall; and sisters, Doris Yates and Virginia Skarda.
Pallbearers will be Eugene Van Fossen, Mike Van Fossen, Phillip Weedon, Joshua Colclasure, Collin Williams, and Little Mikey Van Fossen.
Honorary pallbearers will be Daniel Hall, Jr., Johnny Weedon, Vince Groves, Kenneth Groves, Derek Hall, Wesley Willhoit, and John Urban.
Special memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 6977 S. Main, Houston, Texas 77030.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, November 21, 2025, at Shafer Funeral Home.
