Monty Merrell

          Memorial services for Monty Merrell, 82, of Wells, will be held Friday, June 14, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church Childress in Childress, Texas, with Bro. Joe Merrell officiating.

          Mr. Merrell was born on February 25, 1942, in Childress, Texas, to the late Y. B. Merrell and Georgia Ruth (Jones) Merrell, and died Wednesday, June 5, 2024, in Wells.

          Mr. Merrell loved baseball and horses.  He was an avid baseball player in his younger days, during his games you would find him behind home plate serving his team as catcher.  He worked for Fleetwood Transportation, finally retiring from the company after many years of service.

          He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Peggy Merrell; daughter, Renee Holt of Rio Rancho, NM; son and daughter in law, Mark and Kelly Merrell of McAlister, OK; brother and sister-in-law , Joe and Pat Merrell of Childress, TX; sister, Norma Murphy of Amarillo, TX; sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Butch Nichols of Childress, TX; sister, Brenda Wolf of Las Vegas, NV; sister, Barbara Gilley of Childress, TX; sister and brother-in-law, Debbie and Benny Poe of Childress, TX; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

          He was preceded in death by his Parents; son, Cory; daughter, Lisa; brother, Billy Ray; grandson, Shawn; granddaughter, Kyla; and great-grandson, Kasey.
