Morgan Victor Basham

          Graveside services for Morgan Victor Basham, 78, of Lufkin, will be held Thursday, August 8, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Gann Cemetery in Lufkin.

          Mr. Basham was born on February 5, 1946, in Lufkin, Texas, to the late Henry Morgan Basham, Jr. and Myrtle Lee Basham, and died Sunday, August 4, 2024, in Lufkin.

          Mr. Basham was affectionately known as “Honey” by his grandchildren and as “Buddy” by close friends and family. He graduated from Central ISD in 1964 and then attended Tarrant County Junior College from 1986 to 1988. Mr. Basham retired from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice after 20 years. He was a member of the Masonic Fraternity and served in the Texas National Guard Company C 386th Engineering Battalion, 49th Armored Division. 

           He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Morgan Basham, Jr. and Erin Basham of Silsbee, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Ashlee and Bennie Powell of Groveton, TX; sister, Sue Young of Hudson; granddaughters, Abbigail Basham, Haylee Larive, Kyrah Savoy, and Mae-Lynn Basham; grandsons, Trey Larive, and Gabriel Powell; sister, Dorothy Tucker of Pollok, TX; brother and wife, Charles and Linda Basham of Pollok, TX; sister-in law, Sue Hess; brother-in-law, Gene and Bobby Sheffield of Rockland, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.    

           He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 50 years Dorothy (Geemama) Sheffield Basham; son, Baby Boy; and brother, Manuel Basham.
