Funeral services for Namona “Judy” Nelson, 88, of Huntington, will be held Thursday, May 1, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin with Pastor Becky Love officiating. Interment will follow at Huntington Cemetery in Huntington.
Mrs. Nelson was born on February 16, 1937, in Indiana, to the late Paul Vernon Slisher and Mary Edith (Burdine) Slisher, and died Saturday, April 26, 2025, in Lufkin.
For 30 Years, Mrs. Nelson, and her husband owned and operated the American Angler Bait and Tackle Shop in Broaddus, Texas. She was always making something, from candy at Christmas, to prayer shawls for the church. Mrs. Nelson had a giving heart, and as an original member of Huntington United Methodist Loose Threads, would make weighted blankets to donate to autistic children in East Texas. Mrs. Nelson enjoyed hummingbirds, vegetable gardening, and sewing. Above all she loved her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter and husband, Marilyn and Donnie Taylor of Huntington; granddaughter, Samantha Taylor of Conroe, TX; grandson and wife, Jacob and Katrin Taylor of Huntington; great-grandchildren, Elijsha, Natalie, Brooke, Charlie, and Dawson; brother, William Slisher; brother, John Slisher; sister, Rosemary Walker; sister, Elda Franks; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald Nelson; brothers, Robert “Bob” Slisher, Richard Slisher, and Art Slisher; and sister, Joann Fulbright.
Pallbearers will be Elijsha Taylor, Charlie Webb, Chris Idleman, Tony Burnett, Tom Ryder, and David Fenley.
Honorary pallbearer will be Dawson Taylor.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at Shafer Funeral Home.
