Memorial services for Nancy Maria Delahoussaye Choate, 78, of Pollok, will be held Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin, Texas, with Brother Keith Bickley officiating. A visitation will be held prior to the memorial service from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Mrs. Choate was born on April 28, 1947, in Port Arthur, Texas, to Jared Delahoussaye and Ruby (Shumaker) Delahoussaye, and died Thursday, November 6, 2025, in Pollok.
She attended Central School in Pollok, TX, where she graduated in 1965 from Central High School. She was the Sports Manager for the Annual Staff 1964-1965; FHA (Future Homemakers of America) 1961-1963; Choir (High School). After graduating High School, she attended Massey Business College in Lufkin and on August 11, 1967, married Herbert Wayne Choate. Once completing her education there, she went to work at the Texas Foundry as a Keypunch Operator until 1971. In 1976 the family moved to Pasadena TX where she went to work for Spain and Ham. In 1983, the family moved again to Angleton, TX. She continued to work for Spain and Ham for a while even after moving to Angleton. After leaving her job in Pasadena, she went to work for Jimmy Phillips Law Office in Angleton. While working there she met her lifelong friend Polly Brent. But, as life is always changing and evolving, and everything comes full circle, life brought the family back to Pollok, TX. Mrs. Choate worked at Boles Grocery store in Wells, TX for numerous years.
Growing up, Nancy and her sister Molly were blessed to be surrounded by family and had a close bond with all their cousins. It wasn’t until October 25, 2018, Nancy and Molly found out they had a younger brother, Robert Mcleod.
She enjoyed having lunch with her friends, Judy and Sandra, and chatting on the phone. Even though she was usually on the phone when one of her daughters called, she said she never talked to anyone. Mrs. Choate found simple joy in sending out greeting cards just to bring cheer to her friends and loved ones on ordinary days and especially for holidays and birthdays. She loved her family dearly and took special pride in her grandchildren, and she was a devoted member of her church. She was Baptized in 1999 in the Neches River under the direction of Brother Jim Maddox and literally saved by Noel Glenn Williams as the current caught her, and he kept her from floating away.
