Funeral services for Patrick Lloyd “Papa Pat” Harris, 76, of Lufkin, will be held Friday, July 12, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin with Bro. Skipper Eberlan officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Springs Cemetery in Etoile.
Mr. Harris was born on February 23, 1948, in Clarksdale, Mississippi, to the late William Harris and Katie (Fitzgibbon) Harris, and died Sunday, July 7, 2024, in Longview, Texas. He was the 7th son of 12 children and was the first to be born in a hospital. At age 7 years old, his family moved to Lake Charles, Louisiana.
Pat served in the United States Army as a radar specialist. After discharge, he moved to Lufkin, Texas, becoming a fire fighter and EMT. Mr. Harris later met his wife Jeannie, and they have been married 53 years. Pat worked for Southwestern Bell, where he retired after 30 years. He also retired from Splicers Inc.
Mr. Harris has had many accomplishments in his life, but his favorite was becoming Papa Pat to Kaitlynn, Hadleigh, and Kayleigh. He was their fixer of all, taxi driver, and coffee maker. He will be missed dearly.
Mr. Harris is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jeannie Harris of Lufkin; daughter, Laura Lynn and husband Wayne Wallace, Jr. of Etoile; granddaughter, Kaitlynn Burch of Etoile; great-granddaughter, Hadleigh Burch and Kayleigh Burch, both of Etoile; brothers, Fred Harris and wife Shirley of Lake Charles, LA, Kenneth Harris and wife Sally of Ragley, LA, and Larry Harris and wife Linda of Lampasas, TX; and sisters, Judy Materne and husband Boris of Arlington, TX, Barbara Bordelon of Ragley, LA, and Joy Welch and husband Ronnie of Ragley, LA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Katie Harris; brothers, Norris Harris, Zonie Harris, Harold Harris, and James Harris; and sister, Billie Marie Brown.
Pallbearers will be James Harris, Brad Harris, Jonathan Harris, William Materne, Dean Harris, and Kory Fontenot.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Retirees of Southwestern Bell.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 Noon to 1:00 p.m., Friday, July 12, 2024, at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin, prior to the funeral service.
