Ricardo Cabrera

          Funeral services for Ricardo Cabrera, 56, of Lufkin, will be held Friday, April 26, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin with Minister Chad Bittick officiating. Interment will follow at Freeman Cemetery.

          Mr. Cabrera was born March 21, 1963 in McAllen, Texas, the son of Arcadio Cabrera and Maria L. (Garza) Cabrera, and died Tuesday, April 23, 2019 in Lufkin.

          Mr. Cabrera was a God fearing and Christian man, who enjoyed collecting antiques. He loved spending time with his family. Mr. Cabrera always had a way of making people laugh. He enjoyed playing the guitar along with other instruments. Listening to music was one of his favorite pass times. Mr. Cabrera was the best husband, father, and grandfather.

          He is survived by his wife, Maria Cabrera of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Martin and Rosie Buenrostro of California; daughter and son-in-law, Ester and Roberto Vera of Houston; son and daughter-in-law, Ricardo Jr. and Dolores Cabrera of Louisiana; son and daughter-in-law, Arcadio and Zafiro Cabrera of Lufkin; grandsons, Joe Buenrostro, Roberto Vera Jr., Jonathan Castillo, Sebastian Rodriguez, Angel Rodriguez, and Ricardo Cabrera III; granddaughters, Terry Buenrostro, Ester Buenrostro, Jasmine Vera, Ivonne Castillo, Isabella Vera, Bryana Cabrera, Melanie Cabrera, Reyna Cabrera, Dulce Cabrera, and Rachel Rodriguez; great-grandchildren, Leo, Aria, Martin, Elijah, and Mateo; mother, Maria L. Cabrera; sister, Maria De La Luz Canales; sister and brother-in-law, Irma and George Thompson; brother and sister-in-law, Juan and Veronica Barnhart; sister and brother-in-law, Rosa and Rene Garcia; sister and brother-in-law, Ana and Roberto Mata; sister, Leticia Cabrera; brother, Arcadio “Carin” Cabrera; brother, Miguel Ontiveros; sister-in-law, Esperanza Cabrera; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

          Mr. Cabrera was preceded in death by his father, Arcadio Cabrera; brother, Roberto G. Cabrera; granddaughter, Ester Buenrostro; and special friend, Luis Blanco.

          Pallbearers will be Ricardo Cabrera Jr., Arcadio Cabrera; Roberto Vera, Luis Alejandro Blanco, Juan Jose Garza, Martin Buenrostro, Roy Medina, and Danny Montelongo.

          Honorary pallbearers will be Nathan Worthen, Greg Burkett, and Arturo Robles.

          Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, April 25, 2019 at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin.
