Funeral services for Robert “Bobby” Smith, 66, of Etoile, will be held Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin with Bro. Mark Youngblood and Bro. Johnny Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Springs Cemetery.

            Mr. Smith was born on July 19, 1958, in Lufkin, Texas, to the late John Robert Smith and Melba Jean (Blackwell) Smith, and died Tuesday, December 3, 2024, in Tyler, Texas.

            Mr. Smith was a member of Broken Vessels Church in Lufkin and loved going to church there. He worked as a machinist at Lufkin Industries for 32 years and was a mentor to a lot of the employees at Lufkin Industries. Mr. Smith was also a member of the Etoile Volunteer Fire Department for over 30 years. He was an all-around good man that enjoyed picking and playing around with you. Mr. Smith was also a little bit stubborn, hardheaded, and could be a daredevil at times.. He loved his wife, kids, and grandkids very much. Mr. Smith enjoyed riding his tractor, riding his lawnmower, and listening to music while he piddled around. He was a good woodworker.

            Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Brenda Smith of Etoile; son, Robert “Buckshot” Brashear of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, David and Tasha Brimer of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Joshua and Ashley Brimer of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Chase and Leslie DuPree of Etoile; daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Billy Rayford of Tyler; grandchildren, Dane Young and wife Mikayla of Huntington, Oran Young of Lufkin, Gabe DuPree of Huntington, Lilly DuPree of Huntington, Brittany Brimer of Conroe, Zaden Christian and wife Jamie Brimer of Nacogdoches, James Brimer of Zavalla, Tanner Burnette of Lufkin, Rylee Brimer of Conroe, Bryson Brimer of Conroe, and Brantley Brimer of Conroe; great-grandchildren, J.R. Young of Huntington, Jessikah Young of Huntington, and Paisley Mae “Freddie” Christian on the way; sister, Becky Landrum of Lufkin; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

            He was preceded in death by his parents; nieces, April Landrum and Zaney Martin; and nephew, T.J. Martin.

            Pallbearers will be David Brimer, Oran Young, Dane Young, Chase DuPree, Jim Parkinson, and Robert “Buckshot” Brashear.

            Honorary pallbearers will be Thomas Roberts, Chris Lord, Zaden Christian, Merl Smith, and Earl Smith.

            Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, December 6, 2024, at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin.
