Roger L. Smith

         Funeral services for Roger L. Smith, 72, of Etoile, will be held Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at New Life Christian Fellowship in Nacogdoches with Rev. Keith Smith officiating. Interment will follow at  Saints Rest Cemetery in Nacogdoches.

          Mr. Smith was born on November 30, 1951, in Kinder, Louisiana, to the late Henry Smith and Margie Smith, and died Saturday, August 31, 2024, in Lufkin.

          Mr. Smith was known for being a perfectionist. He took pride in taking care of his vegetable garden. Mr. Smith enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, and basketball games. He was a big Temu shopper and prank puller he liked to make you laugh. Most of all Mr. Smith loved his family and grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and enjoyed watching them play sports.

        He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Patricia Smith of Etoile; son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Kelly Smith of Etoile; son, Cody Smith of Etoile; granddaughter, Addison Smith of Etoile; granddaughter and husband, Emily and Case Forrest of Huntington; grandson, Colton Smith of Etoile; grandson, Hunter Smith of Garland, TX; granddaughter and significant other, Marley Lawrence and Dwyatt Patrick of Zavalla; granddaughter, Summerrose Smith of Garland, TX; great-grandchildren, Kacie Locke, Eli Haltom, Stihl Forrest, and Kamdyn Lawrence; brother and wife, Bill and Genevieve Smith of Kinder, LA; brother and wife, Jerry and Emmy Smith of Plentywood, MN; brother-in-law, James Hodges of Etoile; sister, Brenda Fruge of Kinder, LA; sister and husband, Tammy and Curt Franklin of Metairie, LA; along with numerous nieces and nephews. 

          He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Pierre Smith; sister, Carol Hodges; niece, Tonya Berry; and brother-in-law, Edward Fruge.

          Pallbearers will be Doug Fruge, Donny Fruge, Drew Fruge, Case Forrest, Russell Leggett, and Bobby Ivory.  

          Honorary pallbearers will be Marty Rogers, O.L. Wheeler, Robert McGrath, and Dan Burgess.

          Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at New Life Christian Fellowship.
