Funeral services for Ronald “Ronnie” Hunt, 79, of Lufkin, will be held Sunday, October 12, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin with Mr. Reagan McClenny and Preston Nichols officiating. Interment will follow at Johnson-Tullos Cemetery in Trinity County.
Mr. Hunt was born on July 13, 1946, in Midlothian, Texas, to the late Roy Bee Hunt and Johnnie Fae (Baker) Hunt Hardcastle, and died Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at his residence.
Mr. Hunt began his career as a deputy for the Angelina County Sheriff’s Department, followed by a long career as a Game Warden for the state of Texas where he retired with rank of Sergeant after 22 years of proud and dedicated service. After retirement, he worked at Cox Ranch in Athens, TX, as Game Manager. He was Manager at Bonner Farm in Hudson and Assistant Manager at Clark Angus Ranch in Crockett. Following his time at these ranches, he became the Trinity County Precent 4 Constable and Investigator for Trinity County Sheriff’s Office. Mr. Hunt left there to become a Special Ranger for Texas-Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association. He retired to spend his remaining years helping to raise his grandsons, Kaleb and Gavin.
In 2023, Mr. Hunt was baptized at Centralia Church of Christ. He was a member of Timberland Drive Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Connie (Tullos) Hunt of Lufkin; son, Jarod Wars of Lufkin; daughter, Christi Wars Coleman and husband Craig of Longview; grandson, Kaleb Wars and fiancé Harley Nash of Apple Springs; grandson, Gavin Wars of Lufkin; grandson, Campbell Coleman of Plano, TX; granddaughter, Carliece Coleman Storey and husband Ryan of Shreveport, LA; granddaughter, Loretta Merritt of Hemphill; great-granddaughter, Sophie Storey of Shreveport, LA; cousin, Phil DeLaFosse and wife Annette of Woodlake, TX; nephew, Eric Hunt and wife Melissa of Huffman, TX; niece, Jo Ellen Crenshaw and husband Richard of Hudson; niece, Erin Hunt Young Timme of Lufkin; numerous great-nieces, nephews and cousins; and special friend, Buck Bonner of Fairfield, TX.
Mr. Hunt was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Jim Hunt.
Pallbearers will be Kaleb Wars, Gavin Wars, Travis Thorne, Walker Camp, Phillip Dykes, and Grayson Dykes.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Johnson-Tullos Cemetery Association, 119 W.H. Tullos Road, Apple Springs, Texas 75926.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin.
