A graveside service for Roy Alton “R.A.” Barge, 94, of Zavalla, will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Barge Cemetery in Zavalla with Pastor Jeremy Elliott officiating.
Mr. Barge was born on May 12, 1929, in Lufkin, Texas, to the John Thomas Barge and Louise Mae (Segrest) Barge, and died Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at his residence.
Mr. Barge was of Assembly of God faith. He loved his Lord and served him faithfully. Mr. Barge was very giving and loved his family very much. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and family gatherings. Mr. Barge was retired from AK Steel as a locomotive engineer.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Dolly Barge of Conroe, TX; son, David Barge of Zavalla, TX; son, Allen Barge; son and daughter-in-law James and Sherrie Herring of Zavalla, TX; son and daughter-in-law, Russel and Jenny Tullos of Apple Springs, TX; grandchildren, Wesley Herring and wife Leah, Blake Herring and wife Jalen, Jessica Taylor and husband Joseph, and Allie Gauer and Heather; great-grandchildren, Kalen Herring, Alyssa Herring, Kinley Herring, Jaycee Taylor, and Konnor Taylor; sister, Yvonne Henson of Houston, TX; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Helen Barge; brother, Bill Barge; and sisters, Doris Barge and Dorothy Barge.
