Royce Hopson

          Ms. Hopson, 77, of Lufkin, was born on July 22, 1948, in Lufkin, Texas, to  the late Roy Nathaniel McMullen and the late Aggie Faye Mott, and died Sunday, April 5, 2026, in Lufkin.

          Royce’s favorite place was the beach, and she especially loved spending time at Crystal Beach and Panama City Beach, Florida. She loved to read, play bingo and enjoyed bird watching. She was a dedicated member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, but more than anything, she was a loving sister and mother who adored her children, sister, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

          She is survived by her son, Joe McMullen of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Shanda and Scott Gilcrease of Lufkin; son, Coty Wayne Hopson of Lufkin; sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Roy Osburn of Huntington; brother and sister-in-law, Roy Neil and Cindy McMullen of Huntington; brother, Raymond McMullen of Dayton, Texas; adopted son and daughter-in-law, Sam and Sarah Smith of Silsbee; 15 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

          She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents, Neal and Vada Mott; and sister, Peggy O’Neill.
