Ruben “Piri” Hernandez

            A Mass of Christian Burial for Ruben “Piri” Hernandez, 60, of Lufkin, will be held Saturday, October 28, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Lufkin with Fr. Denzil Vithanage officiating. Interment will follow at Whitehouse Cemetery in Lufkin.

            Mr. Hernandez was born on November 23, 1962, in Irapuato, Guanajuato, Mexico, to the late Jose Soledad Hernandez and Maria Soledad (Hernandez) Hernandez and died Friday, October 20, 2023, in Lufkin.

            Mr. Hernandez was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Lufkin. He was a very hard worker and that was a priority in his life. Mr. Hernadez enjoyed grilling for his family and friends and his favorite food was seafood. He was an avid soccer fan and his favorite team was Las Chivas. Mr. Hernadez also enjoyed raising cattle with his sons.

            He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Vicky and Juan Carlos Martinez of Nacogdoches; son and daughter-in-law, Ernesto Hernandez and Jessica Penick of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Jose Hernandez and Melissa Tang of Lufkin; grandson, Joaquin Hernandez, Jr. of Lufkin; granddaughter, Imia Hernandez of Lufkin; grandson, Lukas Hernadez of Lufkin; grandson, Ivan Hernadez of Lufkin; grandson, Isaac Hernandez of Lufkin; granddaughter, Yessica Muñoz of Lufkin; grandson, Rogelio Muñoz, Jr. of Lufkin; grandson, Mark Muñoz of Lufkin; granddaughter, Delilah Martinez of Nacogdoches; grandson, Juan Carlos Martinez, Jr. of Nacogdoches; great-grandson, Rogelio Muñoz III of Lufkin; mother of his children, Virginia Aguilar of Lufkin; sister, Esperanza Hernandez; sister, Ana Hernandez; brother, Fermin Hernandez; sister, Graciela Hernandez; sister, Salud Hernandez; brother, Antonio Hernandez; sister, Francisca Hernandez; sister, Leticia Hernandez; and brother, Juan Hernandez.

            He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Juaquin Hernandez; sister, Rosa Hernandez; and brothers, Gumaro Hernandez and Jose Hernandez.

            Pallbearers will be Ernesto Hernandez, Jose Hernandez, Jay Hernandez, Juan Carlos Martinez, Antonio Hernandez, and Alexis Hernandez.

            Honorary pallbearers will be Jesus Aguilar, and Jose Lopez.

            Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Friday, October 27, 2023, at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m.
