Memorial services for Sergey Solntsev, 90, of Lufkin, will be held Saturday, December 27, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin with Pastor Ralph Williams and Pastor John Nicholas officiating. A visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, prior to the memorial service. A reception will immediately follow the service at the funeral home.

          Mr. Solntsev was born on March 1, 1935, in St. Petersburg (Leningrad), Russia, to the late Sergey Ivanovich Solntsev and Efrosinia Georgivna (Anashenkova) Solntsev, and died Sunday, December 14, 2025, in Lufkin.

          Mr. Solnstev was a chess master and enjoyed traveling. In his younger years, his passion was playing tennis.  He previously was employed for many years by Texas Metal Casting as a Metalogical Engineer, where he used his Master's Degree in Metallurgy.

          Mr. Solnstev is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Alexander Solntsev and Tami Lyons of Sugar Land, TX; grandson, Lyon Solntsev; granddaughter, Kira Solntsev; granddaughter, Alexis Solntsev; and niece, Romona Williams-Briggs of Lufkin.

          Mr. Solnstev was preceded in death by his parents.
