Private Graveside Services for Shirley L. Baum, 87, of Lufkin, will be held Monday. Memorial Services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Shafer Funeral Home with Pastor Rick Russell officiating.
Mrs. Baum was born on November 14, 1938, in Natchitoches, Louisiana, to the late Louis Enoch Lonadier and Nora Augusta (Smart) Lonadier, and died December 18, 2025, in Lufkin, Texas.
Shirley was proud to be in the first graduating class from Bridge City High School in 1957. She was employed by Southland Paper Mill, Champion Paper and Temple-Inland Forest Products. She loved to watch Fox News for the latest news of “her” President, Donald J. Trump. She was very proud to be an American. She and Don worked tirelessly for the Republican Party of Angelina and San Augustine Counties. Don may have had the position of County Chairman, but everyone knew that Shirley was the ramrod behind him. Shirley loved to travel, having been to many European countries with friends and family. She loved her family deeply and was a wonderful “Gran” and “GG” to her grands and great-grands. Shirley left her mark on her family and friends and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Jim Head; daughter, April Ray; grandchildren, Letney and Cory Head, Loren and Alaina Head, and Madden Ray; great-grandchildren, Lane, Paige, John, Kate, Sarah, and Davy Head; nieces and nephews, Cindy and George Griffith, and Michael and Kim Philen; cousin, Glory Burke; special friends that were like family, Sharon Kennedy, and Wayne and Isabel Hardy.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Bunny Fox; sister, Bobbie Philen; and husband of 20 years, Don Baum.
Honorary pallbearers will be James Moricca, Doug McElroy, Mike Sandlin, Letney Head, Loren Head and Madden Ray.
Special memorials may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75904 or Carpenter’s Way Church Building Fund, 400 N. John Redditt Drive, Lufkin, Texas 75904.
