Memorial services for Steve Dixon, Sr., 77, of Lufkin, will be held at a later date.
Mr. Dixon was born on July 2, 1948, in Lufkin, Texas, to Truitt Dixon, Sr. and Wilmalene (Martin) Dixon.
He served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Vietnam War as a medic.
Steve was dearly loved by his family and was the most devoted Dad in the world. He was best known for his dedication and devotion to his children. He lived a simple life with a strict routine. Steve retired after nearly 30 years at United Parcel Service. Mr. Dixon received the highest safe driving award. He cherished the opportunity to work alongside his good friends and colleagues, especially Jerry Barker and Miss Tina. You could often find him enjoying a pleasant evening under “the oak tree”, sharing conversation with his brother, "Bug". Also known for his love of “scratch-off’s” from Hernandez’s Grocery.
Mr. Dixon is survived by his son and best friend, Steven “Stevie” Martin Dixon, Jr. of Pollok, Texas; Andrea Garner; daughter, Dena Kay Dixon of Woodlake, Texas; grandchildren, Clayton Lane VanLeuven and wife, Emily; Ryland Chance VanLeuven and wife, Sarah Gossett; and Alexis Dixon; great-grandchildren, Blakely Ray and Miley Jo VanLeuven; brother, Truitt “JR” Dixon, Jr.; and nephew, Shane Dixon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; nephew, Truitt “Trey” Dixon III; mother of his children and lifelong friend, Carol Ann Phelps; and special friends, Bill Conrad, Bill Spiller, and J.W. “Lucky” Childers.
