Houston grew up in Rayville, Louisiana and attended Rayville Schools. Afterward he attended Northeastern Louisiana State (Now ULM) and graduated in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. He went on to practice pharmacy for 48 years, 30 plus years in the Lufkin area. He absolutely loved working as a pharmacist and thoroughly enjoyed his customers. And his customers loved him to the point when “Mr. Houston” changed pharmacies they would follow.
He was a person who continued to learn new pharmacy skills and knowledge throughout his life. He had a very curious nature to the point where he made his own mushroom extracts, learned Spanish and new words everyday. In any interest he pursued he put in 110 percent into honing the skill. He loved taking trips and he and Judy loved to ride the back roads of East Texas on his Harley.
But most of all he loved God and his family. He married Judy Flurry in December 1994 and welcomed her three girls as his own. He was able to help others when they were in hard times and always was there to listen to their needs and problems. Always telling them that God is the way and the answer, this was his mission field. Even at his sickest at MD Anderson he was able to tell others of the peace of God that was within him and how they could have it also. He was a member of Timber Creek Church.
