Memorial services for Travis Easton Smith, 57, of Corrigan, Texas, will be held Friday, May 10, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin with Bro. Charlie Hodge officiating.
Travis was born on June 2, 1966, in Houston, Texas, to the late Edna Dale and G.W. Smith, and died Friday, May 3, 2024, at his home in Corrigan, Texas.
Travis owned Smith Construction and had a passion for custom cabinet building and a reputation for quality workmanship. He also enjoyed barbecue cooking competitions and spending time with his family and friends. He was employed by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice as a cabinet-making instructor for 28 years and retired from that position in 2018. Through this work, he had a positive impact on many inmates’ lives. Travis was an integral part of his community and was always willing to help those in need.
He is survived by his fiancé, Debbie Laurent of Corrigan, TX; daughter, Emily Smith of Dallas, TX; sister and husband, Lisa and Kevin McCollum of Corrigan, TX; aunt and uncle, Linda and Harlon Parrish of Corrigan, TX; aunt and uncle, Kathy and Jerry Perkins of Atoka, OK; uncle, Carlos Perkins of Tuttle, OK; numerous nieces and nephews; and too many friends to name individually.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edna Dale and G.W. Smith; sister, Brenda VanAntwerp; uncle, Bob Perkins; and his grandparents.
The family will welcome friends and family for a memorial visitation from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 10, 2024, at Shafer Funeral Home, prior to the memorial service.
