Vernon Glass

            Funeral services for Vernon Glass, 85, of Diboll, will be held Thursday, October 24, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin with Bro. Ty Phillips officiating. Interment will follow at Ryan Chapel Cemetery in Diboll.

            Mr. Glass was born on October 30, 1938, in Angelina County, Texas, to the late Doyle Glass and Hazel (Skelton) Glass, and died Saturday, October 19, 2024, at his residence.

            Mr. Glass served in the United States Army. He was a great mechanic and a jack of all trades. Mr. Glass enjoyed working on antique cars and building train sets. He loved cats, John Wayne, and never met a stranger. Above all, Mr. Glass was a loving husband and father and loved his family very much.

            He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lavader (Russell) Glass of Diboll; daughter, Juanell Hudgins of Broaddus; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Norman Harper of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Marshall Rogers of Diboll; daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Bill Hardin of Diboll; granddaughter, Melissa Taylor of Broaddus; granddaughter and husband, Alicia and Lou Sanchez of Lufkin; granddaughter, Marilyn Harper of Raeford, NC; granddaughter and husband, Jennifer and Jason Walker of Leesville, LA; granddaughter and husband, Karen and Kenny Bryant of Jacksonville, FL; granddaughter, Tara Rogers of Diboll; grandson, Eric Hardin of Diboll;  great-grandson, Julian Sanchez of Lufkin; great-granddaughter and husband, Reyna and Jay Witherspoon of Okinawa, Japan; great-grandson and wife, Jace and Christine Walker of Shreveport, LA; great-granddaughter and husband, Karyln and Rustin Perkins of Kentucky; great-granddaughter and husband, Khloe and Sebastian Logan of Jacksonville, FL; great-granddaughter, Kayla Bryant of Jacksonville, FL; great-granddaughter, Kylee Taylor of Broaddus; great-granddaughter, Savannah Cunningham of Raeford, NC; 4 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Sam Glass of Diboll; sister, Jerry Nell Wigley of Diboll; and cousin, Harvey Joe Glass of Diboll; cousins, Buddy and Linda Sue Mills of Diboll; and cousin, Mary Thompson.

            Mr. Glass was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Kevin Harper; and son-in-law, Von Hudgins.

            Pallbearers will be William Brittian, Curtis Miller, Arturo “Lou” Sanchez, Julian Sanchez, Curtis Windsor, Ricky White, and Pedro Morano.

            Honorary pallbearers will be Eric Hardin, Bill Hardin, Norman Harper, Marshall Rogers, Sam Glass, and Herman Taylor.

            Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin.
