Funeral services for Virginia Lois Sontag, 81, of Humble, will be held Sunday, August 30, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin with Brother Ty Phillips officiating. At a later date, she will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in Nogalus Prairie.

          Virginia was born on July 4, 1945, in Houston, to the late Luther Benjamin Silcox and Essie Lee (Williamson) McMullen, and died Sunday, August 23, 2026, at her residence.

          As a young woman, Virginia liked to walk the sandy dirt roads with her cousins, and years later with her grandchildren. She worked as a school bus driver for Humble ISD and retired after 19 years. She also worked as a Pre-K teacher at a daycare facility for many years, and in the banking industry for a time. Virginia loved her grandchildren and enjoyed holidays and family get-togethers. She was an avid reader, movie and book collector, and shopper. She adored watching her puppies and chickens. Virginia loved her snacks, especially her Fritos and cookies. She also loved the outdoors - hunting, fishing, camping with her family, and traveling to other states.

          She is survived by her husband, Gene Sontag of Humble; daughter, Tracy Stokes of Humble; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Tamera Aycock of South Carolina; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Melanie Aycock of Apple Springs; stepdaughter, Angela Duffy and husband Tom of Katy; stepson, Dean Sontag of Katy; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Gail and Calvin Dauzat of Conroe; sister and brother-in-law, Sandy and Sam Hyde of Sante Fe, TX; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

         Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Luther Benjamin Silcox and Essie Lee (Williamson) McMullen; stepfather, Ernest “Mack” McMullen; brother, Bobby Garner; stepsisters, Dorothy Maurine McMullen and Mary Dottis McMullen; stepbrother, James Bullock; and grandsons, Jeremy Peterson, Jason Aycock, and Little Richard Aycock.

          Honorary pallbearers will be Jerad Peterson, Joshua Aycock, Jonathon Aycock, Colten Aycock, Van Allen Aycock, Brent Dauzat, Brad Dauzat, Jayvan Aycock, Briar Aycock and Little Michael.

          Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Sunday, August 30, 2026, at Shafer Funeral Home, (600 N. John Redditt Dr., Lufkin, Texas 75904) prior to the funeral service. Following the service, the family invites friends and loved ones to join them for fellowship and refreshments at the Fellowship Hall, Providence Baptist Church, 4423 Ted Trout Drive, Lufkin, Texas, 75904.
