Walter Lee Ferguson

          Burial for Walter Lee Ferguson, 84, of Lufkin, was held at Union Springs Cemetery in Nacogdoches County, Texas.

          Mr. Ferguson was born on January 18, 1940, in Overton, Texas, to the late Grady Lee Ferguson and Norma Lee (Thomas) Ferguson, and died Thursday, March 7, 2024, in Wells, Texas.

          Walter was a devoted husband and father. He loved his wife and son with all his heart. Walter served in the United States Army on two tours of duty during the Korean War and was a true patriot for our country. He settled in Lufkin and worked at Texas Foundries for many years. Walter also loved to sell produce and meet friends. He was a great and kind man and a true southern gentleman. Walter was a strong believer in God. He loved to fish, hunt, and was a great storyteller. Walter was a very proud man, and we were very proud of him.

          He will truly be missed by all. Walter had dementia for many years, and it slowly took his mind, memories, and life. 

          He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Donna Bowers and David Porter, Stacey Ferguson and Dorothy Ferguson, Clarissa James and Michael James, Mike Jones and Devon Jones, Gary Jones and Jo Anne Jones, and Terry Elliott and Larry Elliott.

          Walter was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Laverne Ferguson; son, David Ferguson; brother, Franklin Eugene Ferguson; and sister, Shirley Ann Tolbert.
