Wesley "Don" Blake

           Funeral services for Wesley “Don” Blake, 64, of Hudson, will be held Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Baptist Church in Lufkin with Bro. Steve Cowart and Rev. Wayne Rice officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in Diboll.

Mr. Blake was born on January 1, 1958, in Lufkin, Texas, to the late Olen Ray Blake and Jessie Charlene (Forrest) Blake, and died Saturday, August 13, 2022, in Lufkin.

           Mr. Blake was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Lufkin. He was a hard worker and enjoyed doing so.  He worked for Ray Davis Utilities/Longs Underground Technology for over 25 years, many of those years in upper management.  He also worked as a heavy equipment operator.  He spent the last 12 years of his career in transportation as an owner operator, as well as driving for Faith Transport.  Mr. Blake loved the outdoors, especially hunting in Central Texas, and fishing. He was a bit of a jokester, loved to laugh, and never met a stranger. Mr. Blake was a selfless man.

           He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Cindy Blake of Hudson; daughter, Bethani Blake of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Ross and Jill Blake of Nashville, TN; honorary children, Jennifer Loeffler of Lufkin and Brad Loeffler of Crosby, TX; brother and sister-in-law, Darwin and Lisa Blake of Huntington, TX; and niece and husband, Wendy and Steven White of Tomball, TX.

           Mr. Blake was preceded in death by his parents, Olen and Charlene Blake; brother, Doug Blake; best friend, Charlie Loeffler; mentor, Ray Davis; and childhood friend, Joe Hambrick.

            Pallbearers will be Sammy Steveson, Ricky Blake, Bennis Blake, Steven White, Kris Whisenant, Ryan Hill, Drew Whisenant, and Cameron Rice.

            Honorary pallbearers will be Dickey Corley, Jerry Parrish, Vance Maddux, and Lowell Johnson.

            Special memorials may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Ave., Lufkin, TX 75904 or to the Multiple System Atrophy Coalition, 7918 Jones Branch Dr., Suite 300, McLean, VA 22102.

            The family would like to extend a special thanks to the caring staff at the Hospice in the Pines Inpatient Unit.

            Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, August 15, 2022, at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin.
