Funeral services for William “Bill” Peters, 79, of Lufkin, will be held Sunday, October 27, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin with Pastor Jeff Beltz officiating. Interment will follow at Jonesville Cemetery in Huntington.
Mr. Peters was born on April 18, 1945, in Lufkin, Texas, Tim and Doris Peters, and died Tuesday, October 22, 2024, in Dallas.
Mr. Peters attended Lon Morris College in Jacksonville, Texas, and worked at the Champion Papermill for 28 years. He was head of FFA in high school and was very independent. Bill Peters was Freshman President, Athletic Club President, Student Council Treasurer, Football, Track, Baseball, Citizenship Award, F.H.A. Sweetheart, Elkhorn Staff, and First Team All-District Mr. Peters favorite dish to cook was beans and cornbread. He enjoyed fishing, gambling, and college football. Mr. Peters loved his family very much and was the family “doctor” to all grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Wanda Faye Peters of Lufkin; sons and daughters-in-law, Albert and Michelle Courtney of Huntsville, TX, Luther and Chantay Courtney of Cedar Hill, TX, and Paul and Angie Peters of Lindale, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Jasper Lee of Hudson, TX; daughter, Angela Taylor of Lufkin; 12 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; niece, Jennifer Rambin and husband BD of Garrison, TX; sister, Cheryl Williams of Palestine, TX; and very special friend that attended grade school and up, Joe Maitland.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and grandson, Robert Creed Taylor.
Pallbearers will be AJ Courtney, BD Rambin, Alex Rambin, Adam Rambin, Pernell Johnson, and Joshua Figueroa.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin.
