Graveside services for Virginia M. (Newsom) Poethig, 89, of Roswell, New Mexico, will be held Saturday, September 23, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at the Whitehouse Cemetery in Lufkin, Texas, with Dr. Darryl Smith officiating.

          She was born June 8, 1928 in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of the late Walter Kuklentz and Violet Mae Sorensen Winther, and died Tuesday, September 19, 2017, in Lufkin.

          Mrs. Poethig’s years in Roswell were active and fulfilling. She was an elementary school librarian, worked at banking, and after retirement, spent many hours at The Senior Circle and her church, Gateway International.

          Mrs. Poethig is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Voniss and David Johnston of Collierville, TN; daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Dennis Mulkey of Huntington, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Jim Schroeder of Carson City, NV; grandson, Matthew Vogel of San Diego, CA; granddaughter, Julie Lundgren of San Antonio, TX; granddaughter, Kristen Harrington of Englewood, CA; grandson, James Northcutt of Houston, TX; and great-grandson, Will Harrington of Englewood, CO.

          She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudy Poethig; and her parents, Walter Kuklentz and Violet Mae Winther.

          In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Roswell Humane Society, 703 E McGaffey St, Roswell, NM 88203.
