Funeral services for Hubert “Red” Roebuck, 79, of Zavalla, will be held Monday, May 15, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at Shawnee Church of Jesus Christ with Bro. Steve Rye, Bro. Larry Innerarity, Bro. Cary Modisett, and Bro. Curtis Herrington officiating. Interment will follow at Barge Cemetery in Zavalla.

          Mr. Roebuck was born August 8, 1937 in Oak Grove Community, Texas, the son of Vernon Roebuck and Clara Hopson Roebuck, and died May 11, 2017 in Lufkin.

          Mr. Roebuck was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a Deacon and member of Sulphur Springs Baptist Church. Mr. Roebuck was known in his high school years as “Big Red” and held the record in Zavalla for the most points scored in a high school basketball game, from the 1950’s until the late 1990’s. He was the #1 fan of George Jones.

          He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joan Roebuck of Zavalla; daughter, Lanita Davis of Zavalla; daughter and son-in-law, Charla and Richard Stewart of Huntington; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Bruce Horton of Hudson; daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Kim Kinney of Huntington; daughter and son-in-law, Toni and Russell Harvey of Broaddus; daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Will Donahoe of Zavalla; grandchildren, Lauren Davis, Lindsey Davis, Shaun Ward, Hannah Ward, Stephanie Ward, Ryan Stewart, Blake Stewart, Dachie Horton, Jarrett Horton, Devin Horton, Ashley Kinney, Taylor and Madison Kinney, Tasha and Mark Cheney, Josh Nichols, Russell and Kari Harvey, Jr., Zachary Moody and Faith Baker, Krysten Moody, Kaitlyn Hawley and Terry Matchett, Chandler Hawley, Kaylee Hawley, Triston Donahoe, Jared Donahoe, Clarissa and Aaron Hoke; along with numerous great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Doris Roebuck of Nederland; brother and sister-in-law, Vernice and Onetta Roebuck of Huntington; sister and brother-in-law, Dianne and Steve Rye of Zavalla; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

          He is preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Clara Roebuck; son-in-law, James Davis; and son-in-law, David Ward.

          Pallbearers will be Shaun Ward, Dachie Horton, Jarrett Horton, Devin Horton, Taylor Kinney, Josh Nichols, Zachary Moody, and Chandler Hawley.

          Honorary Pallbearers will be Kevin Roebuck, Caleb Rye, Rodney Roebuck, Kyle Roebuck, Milton Hudspeth, Keith Harris, Kenny Myers, Bud Widner, Joe Wilroy, James Smith, Billy Gerald Simpson, Ray Kilgore, Jeffrey Hudspeth, David Hudspeth, and John Massey.

          Special Fishing Buddies, Randy Hannah, Greg Machann, James Dykes and Chris Reppond.

          Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 14, 2017 at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin.
